region     Central Portugal is an area of outstanding natural beauty, away from it all amidst the rivers and hills of Portugal's hidden beauty. The region is an ideally-placed centre for those who dream of a place in the country with easy access to a wide range of places of interest, delightful villages and small towns and thriving centres of culture.Central Portugal is an area which will appeal to both those looking to start a new life here or looking for a holiday home in beautiful, peaceful and friendly surroundings. We are based about 40 kms from the geographical centre of Portugal. In the vicinity there are glorious rolling hills, delightful mountain rivers and picturesque old villages. The magnificent network of lakes, formed by the dams on the River Zézere stretch for miles and offer wonderful opportunities for fishing, swimming or just relaxing. Within an hour’s drive there is a multitude of fascinating and enjoyable options available – the unspoilt and magnificent coastline,, the impressive and historical university city of Coimbra, the pretty and unspoilt Templar city of Tomar which is home to the amazing Convent of Christ, the Spanish border lands, the enchanting scenery of the Castelo de Lousã and the mountains (to 6000 ft) beyond Pampilhosa de Serra. For a day or a weekend, there are innumerable sites of great historical and natural beauty between Lisbon to the south and the breathtaking Douro to the north. In and around the towns of Pedrógão Grande and Figueiró dos Vinhos, apart from tourism and the historic religious buildings, there are three lakes with boatclubs that use the resources of the rivers, where you can rent a boat, swim or fish (large bass, carp and trout). Two of the reservoirs are huge (Cabril and Castelo de Bode), whilst the third is almost a secret, with very few people visiting its ethereal beauty. On the two largest of the three you will find water sports. Most local councils have also developed ‘river beaches’, one of the most wonderful aspects of life in Central Portugal in the summer. There are many of them, including some that are spectacularly beautiful. Bathing in a mountain stream on a sunny day, below the spreading trees, is nothing less than a glimpse of paradise. Castanheira de Pera town has a river beach with artificial waves, and from the north part there are high mountains which, in winter, have snow for winter sports. Many of our properties are traditional houses in the vernacular style of the region (Beira Litoral), whereby people lived on the 1st floor, above the storage rooms and cellars where the wine was made and stored in barrels. We also have a wide choice of stylish modern houses, apartments, building-plots, ruins for restoration, town houses and smallholdings. You can be assured that all our properties are situated in wonderful surroundings among the hills, villages, lakes and towns of this unspoiled area of natural beauty.
